Immigration is a winning issue in 2012

In a meeting with prominent Latinos at the White House on Thursday, the President pledged to make another run at immigration reform.

According to a White House press release, the President said ""more voices are needed to elevate the immigration debate beyond the politics, false debates, and rhetoric that have dominated the issue."

I was very disappointed when the DREAM Act died in Congress last month; millions of undocumented people already living in this country deserve a path to citizenship. Most of them already pay taxes and contribute to our economy -- it makes no sense to lock them out of full participation in our economic and political system.

Latinos are the fastest growing ethnic group in this country, and our political influence is growing. My plea to the President is to make immigration reform one of your policy proposals for re-election -- many Latinos who vote will be grateful and reward you for it with their political support.

Read all the Immigration proposals.

For you Latinos that entered the country through due process, welcome and thank you. For those that haven't, Mr President, enforce our laws, build the wall higher and longer. It's only fair to those who did it the right way, they worked hard and they deserve it and we all will reward you.

My Conservative Brethren and I dont mind immigration, we welcome it....as long as it is done LEGALLY. That is all we want. As a Hispanic Conservative I dont like when Mexicans break the law and are rewarded for it, that is logic in reverse. Go through the process like everyone else did. That is all we are saying.

Cant remember where i read it, but there was an article a while ago analyzing the political support of the Latino voters on several elections. One of the things that i remember was that the article stated that Latino voters are far from united in their vote, that Latinos from Miami vote Republican, for example, and it also talked about demographics, and how important the Hispanic community was going to be for America in the future.
